Emergency Supplies You Should Keep In Your Truck
Emergency Supplies You Should Keep in Your Truck at All Times
With winter coming, there are a number of emergency supplies you should always have in your vehicle. You never know what type of emergency you might run into, so don't tempt fate by not having what you need on hand. Here is a basic list of the emergency supplies your truck should be equipped with.
1. Road Flares
Every truck should be equipped with a set of road flares. Not only can these be used to mark your location in the event of an accident, they can be used to start fires in an emergency, especially in wet or snowy weather.
No matter what time of year it happens to be, you should always have at least one gallon of potable water stashed away in your truck. If you are planning a longer than normal trip, you should try to find storage space for three gallons.
Being stuck on the side of the road is not much fun, but when you have been there for a few hours, having a few snacks can mean the difference between a bad experience and one that feels disastrous.
Certainly, having a blanket or two can help keep you warm if you break down or slide off the road in the winter. But did you ever consider that blankets can also be a great source of shade in the heat of summer? You can achieve the same results with sleeping bags as well.
5. Jumper Cables
This one is so obvious it shouldn't need to be on the list, but a surprising number of people don't keep a set in their vehicle.
6. A First Aid Kit
You should never leave home without one.
7. A Full-Size Spare, Jack, and Tire Iron
Most Chevy trucks come with a full-size spare along with a jack and tire iron. If you're driving an older truck and don't know for sure, it's a good idea to check before you get a flat.
8. A Phone Charger
Imagine not being able to use your cell phone to summon help after a breakdown or accident because the battery is dead. Toss a 12V charging cable in the glove box of your truck, or a portable battery pack, or even a small solar panel charger.
This is only a small list of the most important emergency supplies every truck should have in a convenient location just in case you need them. There is nothing worse than finding yourself in an emergency situation and not having the supplies you need.
